(More customer reviews)Imagine if you saw a book called "Men's Crochet Method", with Freddy Kruger on the front cover, wearing his infamous knitted sweater.Flipping through the pages, you then realize that this is just another how-to-crochet book, identical to any other one on the market.The only difference is that there are little doodles of footballs, fishing poles, and barbed wire on the margins.
Sound ridiculous?Maybe even misleading?Well, "Girl's Guitar Method" is built on the same sort of idea.
First, let's look at how this book got started.Trish Ciravalo helped create the Daisy Rock line of guitars.These are a band of acoustic and electric guitars made especially for women.Not only to do they have traditionally feminine colors and "girly" shapes, but they're physically contoured to fit the average woman's body (smaller scale, different curving on the back of the body, etc.).And I say, kudos for that.
Due to the success of Daisy Rock guitars, Ciravalo was a approached to write a how-to book in the same fashion.How, exactly, would you write a guitar book for females?I have no idea.While Daisy Rock guitars make some sense because women and men are PHYSICALLY different, the musical notes themselves don't change.We all have two hands and ten fingers, and we still have to put them in the relatively same place to make the same notes.Music theory knows no gender.
In and of itself, it is an OK guitar lesson book.It goes through all of the typical stuff you find in introductory guitar books.But don't kid yourself into thinking that this is somehow musically different or more innovative than any of the other countless other guitar lesson books or book/video sets on the market today, whether they're made for children or adults.You're just paying a few dollars more for more flower doodles and less content.
