(More customer reviews)Although I never thought much about it, I was always interested in modal playing. I was sort of skeptical though, having never heard about David Gross before, but I still decided to try this product.
His simple, methodical approach is very much suited to my learning style. He demonstrates the use of each mode using the E major scale as a reference, showing the chords and arpeggios associated with each mode, and shows sample musical pieces in each one. Very useful.
One important factor with this video is that David slows and breaks down all his examples, so you are not lost trying to figure out what the heck he's doing. Anyone who has bought "instructional" videos before can testify that many of those guys out there basically show off their skills and lecture you without you having learned much, if anything. This guy is different in that area. Nothing fancy, pretty simplified, easy to digest.
The video gets four stars for David's good content focus and teaching approach. The split-screen shots of left and right hands is very useful as well. Good work, David!
